Guard’s Porch (Wall Walk)

Communication line established on the crown of the defensive wall, sometimes in the form of a timber or brick platform on it, covered with a breastwork. The porch equipment was a wall-walk and arrowslits in the breastwork. Theoretically, the porch connected the various elements of the defensive circuit, including gates, towers and bastions, to which it was sometimes the only access.
