Palisade (Stakewall)

A wall made of wooden poles pounded vertically in the ground, next to each other, used as an independent defense device or as a reinforcement or supplement to other types of defense equipment. It was made as a single, double or multi-grade defense device. The palisade belongs to the primal defense equipments used continuously until the end of the nineteenth century.
